A historic solar eclipse will be visible in New York State on Monday, April 8, 2024 with the path of totality running through Western and Northern New York. Schoharie County will experience a 95% eclipse. In Schoharie County, the eclipse will begin at 2:11 p.m. and conclude at 4:36 p.m., with the maximum eclipse occurring at 3:26 p.m.
The solar eclipse is a historic milestone that offers many educational opportunities, however the timing of the eclipse complicates afternoon dismissal and transportation of students. Viewing the eclipse without protective eyewear can cause serious eye damage, and without the ability to enforce the wearing of eye protection during dismissal, student safety would be compromised.
To ensure student safety during dismissal, all C-R schools will dismiss students two (2) hours early on Monday, April 8, 2024.
Please note the following:
- Lunch will be served to students prior to their early dismissal time.
- After School Program (ASP) is canceled.
- The 7th Grade trip to the Wild Center in Tupper Lake will take place as scheduled, as protective glasses will be provided and students will be supervised throughout the eclipse.
- The Board meeting scheduled for 7:00 p.m on April 8 will be held as scheduled.
- April 8 will be a full day for staff and all offices will remain open until their regular times.
