Six C-R Odyssey of the Mind teams competed in the Region 7 regional competition on March 5, hosted at Shenendehowa High School. All six teams were selected to move on to the New York State Odyssey of the Mind competition on April 15 in Syracuse.
Odyssey of the Mind is a competition designed to teach students how to develop and use their natural creativity to become problem-solvers. Each year, Odyssey of the Mind creates one long-term problem each for five different areas: vehicle, technical, classics, structure and performance.
Students work together over the course of many weeks to solve the problem and create a performance to present their solution. Students are also responsible for creating any sets, costumes and props necessary for their performance.
In addition to the long-term problem, students also solve a spontaneous problem on the day of the competition. This part of the competition is called "Spontaneous" because teams don't know what they will have to do until they enter the competition room. Spontaneous problems can be verbal, hands-on or a combination of verbal and hands-on.
