Mr. Michael Schell Jr., is joining the Cobleskill-Richmondville CSD as Golding Middle School’s new Assistant Principal. He was appointed by the Board of Education during its regular meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 17.

Mr. Schell comes to C-R from the HFM BOCES Adirondack Academy, where he most recently served as a behavior specialist for the past two school years. He also has experience as a classroom teacher at the elementary, middle and high school levels as well as in special education settings.

“I am beyond thrilled to join the educational community at Golding Middle School,” Mr. Schell said. “I have already been made to feel incredibly welcomed. I look forward to getting to know students, staff, and the community better. I hope to bring what I have learned to the table to do my part to help provide a comfortable and inviting place to learn.”

Mr. Schell’s role at Golding will include supporting staff members in their professional development pursuits and managing the behavior of students.

“Michael has a clearly demonstrated passion for helping both students and colleagues reach their full potential,” said Mr. David Sander, C-R’s Acting Superintendent of Schools. “His expertise in both professional and student development will make him a valuable member of Golding Middle School’s leadership team.”

At HFM BOCES, Mr. Schell’s work included developing Student Management Plans to support students with behavior difficulties, assisting students in crisis and providing support to staff members in developing best practices for student behavior management.

He also has experience in curriculum and professional development and has served as part of a Teacher Leadership Team. In the past, Mr. Schell taught in grades five through 10 and was a GED instructor, helping students prepare for the High School Equivalency Exam.

Mr. Schell holds bachelors and masters degrees from the College of Saint Rose in Adolescence Education and Literacy Education, respectively. He also has a certification in Students with Disabilities and is a certified School Building Leader.

At Golding, he replaces Mr. David Russell, who had held the position of Dean of Students. The position was recast as Assistant Principal to better capture its full range of responsibilities.
